Rohit Dhankhar, a celebrated professional bodybuilder and gold medal winner from Haryana, died after being brutally beaten at a wedding in the Bhiwani district.

The 26-year-old was attacked by a group of men late Friday night, reportedly after confronting them for alleged sexual misconduct towards women at the event.

Dhankhar succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Rohtak, sparking outrage and renewed calls for justice and women’s safety in the region.​

How the Incident Happened

The violence erupted after Rohit Dhankhar and his friend Jatin attended the wedding of a relative in Rewari Khera village.

Witnesses say Dhankhar objected to some guests using improper language and taking inappropriate photos, prompting a verbal argument.

The verbal dispute was initially resolved, but as Dhankhar and Jatin left the event.

Later, as the two were returning home, their car was intercepted near a railway crossing in Bhiwani.

Around 15 to 20 men surrounded them, armed with iron rods and hockey sticks. While Jatin managed to escape, Dhankhar was dragged from the vehicle and severely assaulted, leaving him with injuries across his body.​

Dhankhar was rushed to Bhiwani General Hospital before being transferred to PGIMS Rohtak, where he died the following day.​

Police have confirmed the attack was retaliation for Dhankhar’s intervention, with investigating officer Devendra Kumar stating that the group targeted him after he stood up for women’s dignity at the wedding.

Family members described the wounds as horrific, with nearly every part of Dhankhar’s body bearing marks from the assault.​
